How Social Media Causes Anxiety, Stress & Depression

Do you feel anxious or depressed for “seemingly no reason”?

The culprit may be social media!

According to this recent study, taking a one-week break from all social media will do wonders for your mental health!

Here’s the gist of the study.

The researchers randomly divided 154 participants into two groups:

  1. One group stopped using all social media (in this case Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok)
  2. The second group continued using social media as usual.

Guess what happened?

After just 1 week, there were significant improvements in well-being, depression AND anxiety in the zero social media group!

These positive effects were a result of a reduction in total weekly minutes spent on social media (with fewer minutes on TikTok being especially “effective” for reducing anxiety and depression).

Bottomline?

I’ve been saying this for years but now it’s finally proven “by science”…

…social media is no bueno for your mental health!

With TikTok being the worst.

If you are dealing with anxiety, or rumination, or perceived high stress levels, or feeling sad or down for ‘no reason’ — you may very well be suffering from the side effects of excessive social media consumption.

So, here is my challenge to you:

Try removing ALL social media apps from your phone for a week and see how much better you feel.

That means no more scrolling on TikTok, Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.

This will reduce your total stress and burden and allow your body and brain to relax, and over time you will notice big improvements in your mood and anxiety.

Quitting social media is a really simple and effective “hack” to feel better!

That is all for today.

Cheers 🙂
